Luminous Silk Foundation by Giorgio Armani – Foundation Friday

Luminous Silk

Firstly I have to address the elephant in the room. Where have I been for the past how many months? If you don’t already know I am currently pregnant and due in December. My fiance and I are extremely excited and looking forward to having another baby boy. I have been taking a break and enjoying this pregnancy so I haven’t been posting much. But I am back and here to stay, with lots of exciting blog posts to come for the year.

I am sure by now you are all aware I am a huge foundation addict with over 100 foundations and counting. Something about finding the next best thing makes me so excited. I decided it was time to start a foundation series. The idea of my series is every time I receive a new foundation, or purchase a new foundation I would review it either in a first impressions style or a review if it’s a repurchase. I literally buy new foundations monthly so I am sure I will have a new foundation post to share with you every Friday.  I hope you all love this series and find it useful. If you have any requests for a foundation to review, please leave a comment below.

Let’s start with one of my latest and most luxurious purchase, the  Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. I have heard that many people rave about this foundation it had been on my wish list forever. I finally decided to bite the bullet and spend all my dollars on picking up this foundation.

The packaging is so beautiful, feels so luxurious and expensive which is ideally what you want when you are spending quite a bit of money on a foundation. The heavy glass bottle, has a black lid with GA embossed which I love and it comes with a pump which is so handy and hygienic. When it comes to the shade range, Luminous Silk is available in 24 shades. Enough shades to match most skin tones. I chose the shade 6 to match me when I am tanned. The shade was a good choice for my fake tan colour.

What Giorgio Armani claims

“Reveal your inner light. Inspired by charmeuse silk, “The Fabric of Emperors,” this luminous foundation glides on weightlessly for a flawless lit-from-within glow. 30ml format.

Using exclusive Micro–fil™ technology to sculpt and brighten, this buildable, medium coverage foundation improves texture and blurs imperfections.”

My first impression

I started with 3 pumps as I do love to achieve a full coverage finish. This turned out to be quite  a lot of product and the formula was quite runny which I wasn’t expecting. I applied it with my fingertips and went in with a buffing brush to buff into the skin. We all know that a buffing or patting motion is going to help you achieve fuller coverage. After the first layer was applied I felt like it definitely was not enough coverage however my skin was very luminous and healthy looking. You could still see my redness and scarring, though I tend to always have that problem.

Luminous Silk is a very natural light to medium foundation and it does feel very lightweight on the skin. I did go in with another layer to try and get my desired coverage and it did build up quite nicely. I felt like the foundation worked well on my skin when i pressed/dabbed in with the flat top brush. Rather than buffing in circular motions.

I honestly feel like this foundation is loved by so many people because of how it looks on the skin especially skin that is clear and doesn’t need as much coverage like I unfortunately do. I feel like it won’t be a favourite at the moment because of my scarring and acne but it may become a go to choice when my skin is cleared. In saying that i did still really like the finish I definitely felt the glow from within. It also dried quite matte so you wouldn’t necessarily have to set it with a powder.

Overall

Throughout the day it looked nice and lasted well. The only place I lost coverage was around my nose area. That really isn’t nothing new that is always the place I first lose coverage. I do feel it is a very beautiful foundation, and it worked well on evening out my skin tone once I had applied more layers and built up the coverage. However I have other foundations that are full coverage and don’t need as much product. If you don’t have any major imperfections, this foundation would be a gorgeous choice for you especially for special occasions or events. The foundation photographs beautifully and doesn’t have any flash back.

I hope you have enjoyed my first foundation file. If you have any request for foundations please leave a comment below.

I have tried this foundation but couldn’t get a perfect match i think i will give it a go again. MY current favourite is the Bobbi brown foundation stick.

Thanks for the honest review, I’ve heard great things about it too, but I have the same problem with redness/scarring. Looking forward to hearing about one you love!

  • I think the shade looks really pretty on you. A pitty you need more foundation than usual to get the full coverage. Thank you for your hoest review though! By the way, I’m really amazed by your collection of foundations.
    Best regards,
